Revel Avoids Monday Shutdown

Wayne Parry of the Associated Press revealed on Monday that the current owners of the Revel Casino in Atlantic City had intended to shut down the $2.4 billion resort immediately, meaning August 18, 2014.

The ownership group had asked the state Division of Gaming Enforcement permission to close on this date but were denied.

Instead, the hotel will be shuttered on September 1 at 11 am, followed by the casino at 5 am the next morning, after failing to secure a buyer.

The Division noted that up to 30 days would be required for an orderly shutdown of the establishment.

Revel is one of three casinos set to close in Atlantic City.  The others include the Showboat and Trump Plaza.
